RAP SHEET 9/1/24

Sermon: Even If He Doesn’t

Scripture: Acts 7:51-60, Hebrews 11:35-40, Daniel 3:16-18

REVIEW:

In this sermon, Pastor Tony discussed trusting God even when things don’t go as expected. Reflecting on the story of Stephen in the Book of Acts, we learned that sometimes God doesn’t intervene in the way we want, but that doesn’t mean He isn’t good or in control.

The Bible is full of miracles but also contains stories of pain, suffering, and disappointment. The critical takeaway is to have faith like Stephen and the heroes of the faith in Hebrews 11—people who trusted God, even when they didn’t receive what they hoped for.

Pastor Tony emphasized that our trust in God should not be based on getting our way but on believing that God is working for a greater purpose. Like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, our faith declaration should be: “We know He can, we know He will, but even if He doesn’t, He is still God, and God is good.” This kind of faith keeps us grounded in who God is, not just what He can do for us.

APPLY:

  1. Reflect on Your Faith: Are there areas where you’ve been disappointed because God didn’t answer your prayers the way you wanted? How does this affect your faith in His goodness and sovereignty?

  2. Develop an "Even If He Doesn’t" Faith: How can you cultivate a faith that trusts God’s plan, even when things don’t go as you hope? What steps can you take to keep your eyes on Jesus, regardless of your circumstances?

  3. Remember God’s Character: How can you remind yourself daily of God’s goodness and faithfulness, even in seasons of waiting or suffering?

PRAY:

Lord, help us to trust You even when things don’t make sense. Strengthen our faith to believe that You are good and in control, even if You don’t show up in the way we expect. Help us to have an “even if He doesn’t” kind of faith, just like Stephen and the heroes of the faith. Remind us that You are always with us, standing with us in our trials and working all things for good. Amen.
