RAP SHEET 10/20/24

Series: What you started

Scripture: Mark 2:1-12

REVIEW

This week, we celebrated the grand opening of MetaChurch Helotes, marking a significant step in the movement God has started. We revisited the sermon that inspired MetaChurch's mission statement: "We do whatever it takes to get people to Jesus."

The message came from Mark 2:1-12, where four friends brought their paralyzed friend to Jesus. When they couldn’t get through the crowd, they "unroofed the roof" of the house Jesus was in to lower their friend before Him. Their extraordinary actions exemplified a willingness to do whatever it took to get someone in front of Jesus.

We focused on the friends' faith that was willing to break social norms, face criticism, and get messy for the sake of getting their friend to Jesus. Jesus responded not just to the paralytic's need but to the faith and determination of his friends.

In contrast, we also saw the reaction of the religious leaders present. They questioned Jesus’ actions and were more focused on rules than relationships. This highlighted how religion can often get in the way of truly helping people find Jesus.

This story reminded us of our mission at MetaChurch: We are called to "unroof the roof" and break free from traditions, comfort, and obstacles that hinder people from experiencing the life-changing power of Jesus.

Apply

  • Are there "roofs" in your life—barriers or comfort zones—that you need to break through to help others encounter Jesus?

  • How can you actively participate in doing whatever it takes to bring hope and change to the people around you?

  • Who can you invite or bring to MetaChurch this week, and what can you do to help them overcome any obstacles in their path?

PRAY

Father, thank you for the courage of the four friends who did whatever it took to get their friend to Jesus. Please help us have that same determination and break through the barriers that keep others from encountering you. Give us the boldness to step into the mess and do whatever it takes to bring people into your presence. In Jesus' name, Amen.
